Nearly 70 years ago, Dr. George Papanicolau, the namesake of our organization, discovered that cancer could be detected early enough to cure it. His discovery, the Pap smear, has saved millions of lives and is now the most widely used cancer screening method in the world. This breakthrough sparked the passion of a handful of courageous women in South Florida. They recognized that scientists, like Dr. Papanicolau, needed money to explore new ways to fight all types of cancer. The mission of the nonprofit organization they founded in 1952 remains unchanged seven decades later. Today, The Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research has 53 chapters and 22,000 members across south Florida. Every research project supported by The Pap Corps adds to the knowledge and prevention of cancer. This year the challenges to our fundraising have caused us to find new ways to reach out to all of you. Cancer patients are depending on us to continue our fight against the devastating disease. The Addison Reserve Pap Corps Chapter has always been a leader in providing the much needed research funding! We must fulfill our mission! So let’s get to it!

The Pap Corps wishes to thank all of our gracious and generous donors for your dedication and support. Together, through the research The Pap Corps supports, professionals at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center are finding cures and treatments for our ultimate goal, a world without cancer. Dear Addison Reserve Residents,
Welcome to the unique Addison Reserve season of 2020/2021. This past spring, summer and yes, fall, have provided unusual challenges as we try to “social distance” while socializing! Normal events and gatherings at this time of year have been cancelled or postponed and making “plans” seems like a futile endeavor.
And yet, we have much to be grateful for! Our outstanding staff at Addison, led by our amazing CEO, Michael McCarthy, has maintained the health and well-being of our community and kept us safe and calm.
The Pap Corps Chapter of Addison Reserve is proud to be woven into the fabric of our club. We are abiding by the health guidelines set by our club leadership and cancelling or postponing our usual gathering events (Card Party, Girls’ Night Out, etc.) this fall. Instead, we are finding ways to fundraise in non-gathering ways.
One of the best ideas that has come from this situation is called THE GIVING TRAIN. You may have seen several e-blasts encouraging you to “Board the Train” by donating to Pap on a monthly basis. This fundraising strategy has been used by other charities (St. Jude’s, ASPCA. The Humane Society, etc.). Now it is our turn to give it a try!
With donations of $30, $20, or $10 a month, it is possible to collectively raise many hundreds — or even thousands of dollars – for the Pap Corps over the next year. I have recently committed to a $30 monthly donation for one year, which comes straight off my credit card. I have already gotten personal email receipts for each donation!
Our goal is to get as many people as possible to “Board the Train!” If 500 Addison families get on board with $30 a month, we will raise $180,000 through this effort alone. No sweat, no worry, no expenses! We are working hard to communicate this to our friends at Addison and beyond.
Our chapter normally holds many events each year. These include card parties, boutiques, a golf tournament and dinner, trips to interesting cultural destinations and more. You must be a member of The Pap Corps to participate in our events, which will hopefully resume in 2021. To become a member, please contact our Membership Chairperson, Debbie Soffer, at (561) 303-1710 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. One extra perk: As a Pap Corps member, you have priority access for you
and your family to any of the services Sylvester provides in Miami or at its satellite clinics.
Cancer patients and survivors are depending on us to continue the fight against this deadly disease. Our strategies are being modified during this difficult yet needy time.
The Pap Corps is counting on all of us to step up to the plate. Let’s get to it!! We wish all of you good health, and applaud your commitment to eradicating cancer.
