Dr. Papanicolaou - Papanikolaou

Nearly 70 years ago, Dr. George Papanicolau, the namesake of our organization, discovered that cancer could be detected early enough to cure it. His discovery, the Pap smear, has saved millions of lives and is now the most widely used cancer screening method in the world. This breakthrough sparked the passion of a handful of courageous women in South Florida. They recognized that scientists, like Dr. Papanicolau, needed money to explore new ways to fight all types of cancer. The mission of the nonprofit organization they founded in 1952 remains unchanged eight decades later. Today, The Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research has 51 chapters and 20,000 members across south Florida. Every research project supported by The Pap Corps adds to the knowledge and prevention of cancer. This year the challenges to our fundraising have caused us to find new ways to reach out to all of you. Cancer patients are depending on us to continue our fight against the devastating disease. The Addison Reserve Pap Corps Chapter has always been a leader in providing the much needed research funding! We must fulfill our mission! So let’s get to it!

With gratitude,

The Addison Reserve Pap Corps Chapter Board

Welcome Pap Corps Members and all Addison Reserve residents to the 2021/2022 season! Click here to read our President's message.

Dear Addison Reserve Residents,

The Pap Corps Chapter of Addison Reserve has been woven into the fabric

of our club for more than twenty years! Due to Covid restrictions last

season, we were forced to cancel our events and activities and substituted other ways of raising funds for our mission of fighting cancer through research, clinical trials, and state-of-the-art treatment. One of those fundraising activities, THE GIVING TRAIN, is continuing this season.

With donations of $30, $20 or $10 a month, it is possible to collectively raise many hundreds — or even thousands of dollars — over the course of a year. This fundraising strategy has been used by other charities (St. Jude’s, The Humane Society, etc.) with great success. Once you “board The Train”, you will receive receipts from The Pap Corps each month in the amount you have chosen to donate.

Our goal is to get as many people as possible to “Board the Train”! If 500 Addison families get on board with $30 a month, we will raise $180,000 through this effort alone! No sweat, no worry, no expenses! We are working hard to communicate this to our friends at Addison and beyond.

This year, thankfully, we will be able to hold our usual fun and exciting events. We are already planning our Girls’ Night Out, December Card Party, Annual Golf Tournament and Dinner and other fun events. All proceeds from these activities go directly to cancer research at the Sylvester Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The funds raised from our Card Party and Golf Tournament will be dedicated to the Kevin Berkowitz End of Year Giving Foundation which will focus this year on melanoma and breast cancer research.

Cancer patient and survivors are depending on us to continue the fight against this deadly disease. The Pap Corps is counting on all of us to

step up to the plate. Let’s get to it! We wish all of you good health and applaud your commitment to eradicating cancer.
