Dr. Eli Avisar

May is National Cancer Research Month. Thanks to the doctors at Sylvester, there have been many advances. Today we feature Dr. Eli Avisar, a surgical oncologist who specializes in breast cancer melanoma and sarcoma. Besides his many contributions to cancer research, Dr. Avisar is an expert in lymph nodes assessment in a variety of difficult places in the body. He also recently introduced a simple procedure which dramatically reduces lymphedema, a long-term swelling of the arm, after the removal of lymph nodes in breast cancer patients. This procedure lowers the rate of lymphedema from nearly one in five patients to approximately one in twenty patients.
